Two persons, including a young girl, died in separate incidents of electrocution in Delhi on Tuesday. In the first incident, a 62-year-old man and a dog were electrocuted to death in South West Delhi’s Najafgarh area. The deceased has been identified as Trilok.

The incident took place around 8:30 am when the man was on his way to the local market. The people in the vicinity said it was raining heavily and an electricity pole was exposed to an open wire.

Trilok was passing from the area when he came near the electric police and was electrocuted. A dog which was accompanying him was also electrocuted.

The people who witnessed the accident immediately rushed to his aid but he was dead by the time they reached the spot. The people then informed the police about the incident.

“We received a call around 9 am. We were informed that one person had been electrocuted. We sent a team to the spot. The deceased who was identified as Trilok had passed away by the time we reached the spot. We shifted him to the nearest hospital in Jaffrabad,” said a police officer.

The residents of the area had complained about the water logging issues which had plagued the area and about how the BSES and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were responsible as they never took any steps to rectify the open wiring.

The police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter. In the second incident, a woman was electrocuted after she tried to switch on a desert cooler at her friend’s house in North Delhi’s Maurice Nagar.

The deceased who has been identified as 22-year-old Ringnam, a native of Manipur, had come to Delhi just a few months ago to pursue a career in medicine. She had been taking MBBS coaching classes in a local center in Christian Colony.

“She had left her house around 5:45 am and had reached her friend’s place. She used to regularly meet her friend’s in the locality; she reached their house and after sometime had switched on the cooler, after which she was electrocuted,” said a senior police officer.

“Prima-facie it appears that the wiring on the cooler was loose. Usually students in the area purchase sub-standard coolers, this appears to be such a case,” the officer added.
After the incident her friends called up the local the police.

“We received a call around 6:18 am. We reached the spot and we found that the girl had passed away. The deceased’s body was shifted to Hindu Rao hospital. Further investigation is under way,” the officer added.
