A 24-year-old dance instructor strangled a 24-year girl-student with an extension cord and then hanged himself with the girl’s “dupatta” at his dance academy in southeast Delhi’s Neb Sarai.

Half-burnt scented candles, rose petals were found near the bodies, said the police.
According to the police, it appears that the youth first strangled the woman, using an extension cord and then hanged himself from the ceiling, using her scarf.

According to sources, the two met first time a year ago when Yogita, 23, came to the ABC Dance Academy run by Sachin, 24, a native of Indore.

According to the police, they met on Tuesday night at the dance academy, owned by Sachin. Both were found dead on Wednesday by a sweeper who entered the unlocked door of the academy and found Yogita lying dead near a sofa in the hall. Sachin’s body was hanging from the ceiling, about 12-15 feet away from her.

The police was alerted and they rushed the two to AIIMS. They were both declared brought dead. Locals from the area say that Sachin had started his dance academy, ABC, two years ago. Yogita, a resident of Chattarpur area had joined the academy about a year ago and the two became friends. The duo had together performed in several dance shows.

According to sources, the girl’s family was planning to get her married to some other man and she had recently shared this with Sachin. It is possible that the man had planned to kill her because of this.

Primary investigations revealed that a few days ago, both had a heated argument after Sachin had raised objections over Yogita speaking to other men.

“It appears that Sachin had suspicions over Yogita that she has an affair with some other man. The police suspects this to be the reason behind the murder and the suicide,” said a senior police officer.

The police suspect that Sachin had planned the murder in advance and then committed suicide out of guilt. “Some of the academy members said that timings on Tuesday were changed such that no one came there after 7pm,” said a police officer.

The police have accessed the call detailed records of the couple and have seized their mobile phones to further investigate the matter.

A case of murder has been registered at Mehraulli police station. The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause and time of death and family members of both the deceased are being questioned.
