‘Decision on police academy in Kudremukh depends on SC order’
The institution is awaiting Centre’s approval, says Home Minister
The proposal of setting up Police Training Academy in Kudremukh has been sent to the Centre for approval, said Home Minister Dr V S Acharya.
Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of Bhavaikyatha Vishwakarma maha sammelan in Chikmagalur, he said “we have made the proposal for the protection of forest. The future of the proposal lies on the judgement of the Supreme Court and decision of the Central government.”
“I have already held discussions with Pejawar seer on MSEZ and PCPRI. I will speak to him once again after the session. We have dropped the proposal of PCPRI as it requires 73,000 acre land. The proposed SEZ wanted 6,000 acre land. However, now we have reduced it to 4,000 acre land,” he informed.
Dr Acharya said “2,000 acre land is under government. Notification has been issued for the acquisition of 2,000 acre land. As agriculture land lies between government land, we have to acquire farm land.”
Brushing aside the allegation that State has not furnished enough details on Naxal activities to the Centre, he said Centre has observed the fact that Naxal activities have come down drastically in the State.
Dr Acharya said “CM has already held discussion with PM and Home Minister on Naxal activities. As Naxal activities have come down in the State, Karnataka need not take part in the meeting to discuss on Naxal.”
A meeting of DCs, ZP CEOs and SPs of Naxal infested district was convened recently. The officials have been asked to undertake development work on priority basis.
MLA C T Ravi, In charge DC Madan G Nayak, SP M N Nagaraj were present.
