Going by media reports, underworld don Abu Salem seems to be enjoying his stay while in Mumbai police custody.

An English tabloid has published a few images, possibly between 2012 and 2015, that shows Salem with his girlfriend Sayyed Bahaar Kausar on a train while he was being escorted to Lucknow.

Other images show the gangster speaking on mobile phones and enjoying delicacies. Salem, lodged in Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai, was extradited from Portugal to face trial in nine cases, including the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Cops quizzed

Officials of the Navi Mumbai police and jail administration were questioned about the reports and pictures on Monday, but did not offer an explanation.

Though Salem is lodged in Taloja, he has to be taken to other cities for trials in various cases. In fact, some of the photos with Kausar are during such trips. Reports also suggest that Kausar had married Salem.

Salem, in his 50s, had married Samira Jumani, a college girl and a 17-year-old minor in 1991, from whom he had two sons. They later divorced. Samira currently lives in the US.

Salem was also in a relationship with former Bollywood actor Monica Bedi. Salem and Monica were extradited to Mumbai from Portugal in 2005.
