Solar power for airport

 The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) near Devanahalli will get 500 kilowatt of solar power.

In a press release, CleanMax Solar said it installed the solar power plant at the KIA, in collaboration with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), on two acres of unused rooftop area across six buildings of the airport.

The plant is now fully operational and will generate approximately 7.5 lakh kWh power annually. It will reduce the airport’s carbon footprint by 700 tonnes annually. The rooftop solar power plant at airport is one of Karnataka’s 10 largest rooftop solar projects.

Hari Marar, President Airport Operations, BIAL was quoted as saying, “These rooftop solar plant have added to the airport’s energy mix and we hope to achieve 40% of our energy needs through this project by March 2017.”
