For Bengaluru’s heavy metal fans, all roads led to Yelahanka, last Saturday.  It was time to attend the annual heavy metal music festival, Bangalore Open Air.  It was a rainy day and that did not seem to keep anyone away from the ear-splitting music.

The 5th edition of Bangalore Open Air had brought several heavy metal bands to perform in India for the first time. Vader from Poland, Soilwork fromS weden, Skull Fist from Canada and Nader Sadek from USA were some of the big name-bands, which came to make music.

The choice of music at the event was eclectic and there was something for everyone. Black, Death, Power, Thrash, Gothic and Melodic were some of the kinds of music that were belted out by the bands at India’s Biggest Heavy Metal Festival.

Bangalore Open Air also sought to promote Indian metal talent.  In the Wacken Metal Battle’ pre-gig contest, Elemental India was declared winner. They will be performing in Germany at ‘Wacken Open Air’, one of the world’s biggest heavy metal shows.

Though heavy metal is yet to find mass reception in India, the organizers were happy with the audience turn out. They said the response was improving with each passing year.
