Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday inaugurated the Hennur Lake biodiversity park situated near HBR Layout, 5th Block.

The park, spread across 33 acres and 32 guntas, has various species of plants like jamun, sandalwood, rosewood, ficus, mahogany to  terminalia, mango and tamarind. A separate garden comprising medicinal plants and herbs too has been formed. The park is complete with facilities such as  drinking water, toilets, stone benches and information centre among others.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the government had announced a Rs 5-crore package for developing the park, out of which Rs 3 crore had been spent. He asked the officials to develop the mark as a model in the city.

He said that the previous BJP government had joined hands with land mafia for encroaching upon government lands in the city. “However, we are reclaiming encroached land. In two years, we will change the face of the city,” he claimed.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has proposed to set up a one-MLD capacity sewage treatment plant on the premises of the Hennur lake park. A press release from  KSPCB said that a cheque for Rs 2 lakh was handed over to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board on Friday.
