The inflow of water in Kootuhole, Kannandabane, Pampinakere and Roshanara has declined. Kootuhole, Kannandabane, Pampinakere and Roshanara are the main source of water to the town. The water storage has declined and it will be difficult to supply water daily till monsoon. So CMC has decided to supply water on alternate days, informed a release from Commissioner K Srikanthrao.

He appealed the public not to watse water. “If anyone is found using drinking water for estates, gardens and construction of buildings, then water supply will be snapped and will be levied huge fine,” he warned.

The Kootuhole was full owing to the unseasonal rain during December. However, the storage of water has declined, which has necessitated the CMC to take a decision early on the supply of water. If kootuhole is desilted, then there will be enough water for the next two months. Though CMC has earmarked the funds for desilting work, the work is being postponed for the last two years.

In the meantime, the government had approved Kundamestri project. As a result, the desilting work has been suspended. A foundation stone was laid for the Kundamestri project at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore. However, later the Centre released additonal funds. As a result, the estimate was revised for Rs 23 crore. With this the new tender process on, the work on Kundamestri project will take two years to complete. Till then, the residents of Madikeri will have to depend on tanker to supply water during summer. It may be recalled that the last CMC has taken a decision to purchase diesel for generators for supplying drinking water in the city.
