Painting a picture

Technology enthusiasts are always on the lookout for something interesting in the app world.

The one that’s doing the rounds right now is the iOS app called ‘Prisma’. It turns your picture into a beautiful painting, giving one a different version of the original.

Having a filter on your photograph is not a new trend, but ‘Prisma’ somehow seems to be hitting the right notes with everyone. Even those who aren’t photography enthusiasts are experimenting with the app.

Jatin Sehgal, a self-employed businessman, says, “I’m not into photography at all and I don’t usually spend a lot of time taking pictures either. But ‘Prisma’ is quite nice and very user-friendly. It makes any ordinary picture look like a million dollars with its artistic effects.”

The multicolours that the app uses add the ‘oomph’ factor to one’s picture. Whether it’s a selfie that you’re converting or a picture from your gallery, it gives it an artistic touch. “If you’re wearing a bright coloured outfit, the app emphasises it and makes it look nicer.

And if it’s a selfie that one is using, it covers the freckles and pimples that one may have with the colours,” adds Jatin.

With various other photo apps available in stores, this app is becoming one of the most downloaded ones. Alex Thomas, a professional, says, “I love this app. I haven’t used it that much but the results it gives are very nice. I also use the ‘vsco’ app (another photo editing app for Android and iOS) but I like that the developers have kept it simple. They are confident about whatever they have developed and people love it.” In order to keep the trend going, he hopes that they add more filters. “Every filter is unique. It’s become so popular that even without the logo of ‘Prisma’ at the bottom of the picture, one can easily identify how it’s created,” he adds.

However, ‘Prisma’ is not just used for fun or to pass time. Many marketing professionals are trying to produce content for their clients using this app.

Harsha M V, a CTO, says, “As this app is the ‘in’ thing right now, we are using this
to showcase the content for our clients and make it relatable. It’s simple and efficient; any content creator can use it.”

The app will also release real-time video options that many are looking forward to. Harsha says, “It’s already a huge hit among iPhone users. With the option to convert videos into artistic paintings, I think it’s going to be a bigger hit and people will absolutely love it.”

The ‘Prisma’ app is only available on iOS right now and it will soon release on the Android Play Store as well. Until then, Android users are taking the help of their friends with iPhones to convert their pictures into paintings.
