BMRCL begins track works from Sampige Rd to Majestic station

Last Updated 22 July 2016, 21:19 IST
Several months after separate tunnelling breakthroughs, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has begun laying tracks at the KR Market and Sampige Road underground Metro stations.

The completion of work on these stretches, in addition to the tunnelling work at Majestic is crucial for the BMRCL to start operations on the entire 42-km phase I network of Namma Metro.

The Kaveri and Krishna tunnel boring machines (TBMs) had made a breakthrough at Chickpet from National College (south ramp) in October, 2014 and August 31, 2015, respectively. The two TBMs were deployed again between Chickpet and Majestic Metro stations. Only the breakthrough by TBM Krishna is pending. It needs a little more than a month to break through, a BMRCL official said.

The official said the corporation is already laying tracks between Sampige Road and Majestic stations. Preparations are on for similar work from National College to Chickpet stations. Almost two years ago, BMRCL had completed the track-laying works between Puttenahalli and National College stations. But they are yet to become operational, due to pending tunnelling work at the Majestic interchange station.
