BMTC app packs useful features but some bugs exist

Last Updated 23 July 2016, 19:35 IST

Though it has been two months since the BMTC launched its app (Easy Travel Information Planner) as part of its Intelligent Transport System (ITS), it is still a mixed bag. A majority of the users of this app do not find it useful while others have appreciated the city transport utility’s initiative.

The app was launched in May to reduce the waiting time for buses.

It has features like ‘locate buses on route’, ‘locate buses near stops’, ‘buses arriving at bus stand/airport’ and ‘trip planner’.

A majority of the users said the app is not accurate in many aspects. It never shows the information of buses on some routes, and the expected time of arrival of buses is also incorrect.

Complaints listed by users pertain to realtime tracking of buses and buses to their destinations.

They also found that the bus numbers displayed on the app are incorrect. Navya Vasista, who uses the app, said the app shows three-four buses with the same registration number. Another user Vishal Raju said, “It shows no direct buses between Jayanagar and RBI Layout in JP Nagar though 215H, 215C and K6 ply on the route.”

Many have suggested updating the app with information useful for passengers. While a few users feel the app is complicated, others have found it useful.

Sadha Nanda said, “Cool app.. But the only drawback is I need to search for the bus number every time I update the location.”

Users feel the app is particularly useful for those who are new to the city and want the BMTC to make it more user friendly.

The app, which is available in both English and Kannada, has seen 10,000 downloads on Google store and has managed a 3.5 rating.

BMTC officials say a dedicated team has been working on improving the app and is responding to users’ complaints.
