A four-year-old girl was raped by a rickshaw-puller in his one-room house in Outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy.
The man identified as Junaid has been arrested by the police and is booked under POCSO Act.
The incident happened on Sunday evening when the girl’s mother Sameena had left the girl and her sister at home to go out in the market to fetch some grocery items.
“When I returned from market after an hour, I didn’t find my elder daughter at home,” said the victim’s mother.
Thinking that her daughter might have gone to her grandmother’s house nearby, Sameena, walked up to her mother’s house and enquired about her daughter.
“My mother told me that she didn’t come to her house. Last time she had seen my daughter in the morning when she was playing with local kids,” Sameena added.
A concerned Sameena and her mother started searching for her daughter in the area. They were looking for her in every house. During their search they found in the vicinity of the colony three to four abandoned rooms which had no doors.
“While searching those secluded rooms, I found my daughter in one of the rooms lying on the floor,” Said Sameena.
A man was also there and got startled seeing the two women entering the room.
“He started running away from the room. However, I caught him and slapped him twice,” Sameena said.
The man still managed to run away leaving the minor girl writhing in pain.
“She was subconscious and had injury marks over her entire body,” Sameena recalled.
Sameena then called up the police who began a search for him. They managed to catch him while he was attempting to run away.
Medical examination
The girl was admitted to Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini. Her medical examination confirmed rape and then the man was formally arrested, the police said.
Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal visited the girl at the hospital and inquired about her condition.
An investigation has been started. The girl was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
