Rain, waterlogging, tree falls affect traffic across Bengaluru

Traffic was affected at a few places in the city on Tuesday after rains uprooted trees and left the roads waterlogged.

Slow vehicular movement was reported in  Whitefield, KR Puram hanging bridge, Outer Ring Road from Old Madras Road to Iblur Junction, from Doddanekkundi Salem Bridge towards Marathahalli, near Bilekahalli, Bannerghatta Road and at Veerasandra junction. The fire force was deployed to drain out the water at some places.

Trees were uprooted at Girinagar, Banaswadi, Srinagar, Kumaraswamy Layout, Jedi Mara at JP Nagar, near Sheshadripuram College, Mico Layout and behind Indiranagar bus depot.
Similarly, water logging and potholes affected traffic along the Marathahalli bridge, Hebbal area and Central Silk Board.

“I was struck on Outer Ring Road, Mahadevapura near More supermarket for about three hours. I reached office very late. The road is in a bad shape with potholes and uneven footpaths. I hope the civic agency does something about it,” said a motorist and resident of Nagawara, Vanitha D. 

Slow traffic was reported at Anepalya Junction on Hosur Road. Potholes and waterlogging led to a traffic jam. Traffic on the Outer Ring Road near Kasturinagar towards Tin Factory was also jammed due to water logging.

The city recorded a maximum rainfall of 33 mm in the last 24 hours up to 8.30 pm on Tuesday while 72 mm of rainfall was recorded in and around Kempegowda International Airport. HAL received 19 mm of rainfall . Temperatures hovered around 30 degree Celsius throughout the day. According to the Met department, the southwest monsoon has been active over south interior Karnataka but weak over coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka. According to the local forecast for Bengaluru city and its neighbourhood, it will be generally cloudy with a few spells of rain/thundershowers in the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 27 and 20 degree Celsius respectively.
