It's holiday for schools in Bengaluru today

Last Updated 26 July 2016, 20:07 IST

Even as schools and colleges in Bengaluru Urban would remain shut for the third day in a row on Wednesday due to the ongoing strike by KSRTC and BMTC staffers, the schools in the Rural district would reopen despite the protest, according to the deputy commissioners.

Since the holiday was declared late in the night, several private schools have decided to work on Wednesday.

D Shashi Kumar, General Secretary of the Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka said that it was now a cause for concern. "We have advised our schools association to work full days on a few Saturdays to compensate for the loss. It is also unfair for children here as the decision is not same for all districts," he added.

Kumar said that the private schools would function on Thursday even if there was no change in the situation. But, they would hold the government responsible for any untoward incident. "It is sad that the government has not been able to resolve the issue after so long. For problems with one department, the others should not suffer. Schools will reopen on Thursday. If teachers do not turn up or if the children are at risk because of travelling in private buses, government is responsible," he said.
