HC wants to know if Sena will pay for damage during stir

A division bench of Justices Ranjana Desai and Mridula Bhatkar gave the direction while hearing an application filed by Dalvi seeking a stay on District Collector's order to pay compensation for vandalism during the Sena stir.

"Dalvi was acting on behalf of the party and thus the party should bear the expenses as prima facie they are responsible (for any act of vandalism)," Justice Desai said.
Observing that the political party should stand by its supporters and workers, the Judges asked the former legislator to get in touch with the Sena "bosses" and let the court know tomorrow if the outfit would pay the compensation amount.

Dalvi was directed by the Collector to pay Rs 7 lakh for the damage caused at Hotel Intercontinental in January last year during a protest held by more than 500 Sena workers over labour-related issues.Dalvi's lawyer Shriram Kulkarni told the court his client had been singled out, while other wrongdoers were not being punished."Political parties coming to the roads and attacking people, damaging public and private property is happening too often these days. The party (organising the stir) as a whole should be held responsible (for violence)," the court said.
