Ready to unravel a rich culture

Prabhath Kalavidaru will present a dance drama, ‘Karunada Vaibhava’ on August 20, 6.30 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra. The performance is based on Karnataka’s rich culture, heritage and history and the acts have been worked upon to suit the taste of the present generation. 

Harish Prabhath, coordinator of Prabhath Kalavidaru, says the performance is to bring the rich culture, history and heritage of Karnataka, closer to the young generation. He informs that eight acts will be performed during a one-and-a-half-hour concert. Among the eight acts are ‘Shalivahana and Vikramaditya’ which will portray the ‘Shaka era’, establishment of Hoysala empire and Shilabalike sculptures at Belur, the fight between Bharatha and Bahubali for the kingdom, portrayal of Shri Krishnadevaraya and of the Vijayanagara Kingdom, Kittur Rani Chennamma and her involvement in the freedom struggle against the British and ‘Punyakoti.’

Another performance will highlight Sir M Visveshvariah’s contribution.  The finale will be a combination of different dance forms of Karnataka and the dancers will salute the stalwarts of Karnataka through a powerful rendition. The lyrics are by Goturi, dance choreography is by Hema Panchamukhi and music by Praveen D Rao. The technical direction is by Harish Prabhath. The lead dancers are Harish Prabhath playing the characters of  Bahubali and Krishnadevaraya, Hema Panchamukhi as Punyakoti and Deepashree as Shantala in Shilabalike. Prabhath Kalavidaru is an 86-year-old organisation that has earlier performed several productions such as ‘Shree Krishna Vyjayanthi’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Dharma Bhoomi’, ‘Mohini Bhasmasura’ and ‘Punyakoti’ just to mention a few. They have also taken their performances across the world.
