Janmashtami with 'liquor' and 'bar girls' in police station

While people across the country were celebrating Janmashtami by visiting temples of Lord Krishna, police officers at a station in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district, about 325 km from here, chose the  ‘liquor’ and ‘bar girls’ route for the festivities.

Police personnel at Bhatni station reportedly organised a liquor party and dance programme by bar girls on the station premises to mark Janmashtami late Thursday night.

The matter came to light on Friday, when someone, who was present at the programme, shot a video and posted it on social networking sites. The video soon went viral.

Taking strong exception to the incident, district police authorities have suspended four officers and ordered a probe.

The video showed police personnel dancing to popular Bollywood with the bar girls on stage holding bottles of liquor in their hands.

One of the officers was seen wearing a saree and dancing with the bar girls.
Sources said all the staff of the station attended the party and the people, who reached there to register complaints, were turned away and asked to come the next day.

Police officials here said that stern action would be taken against those found guilty. “A probe has been ordered...the in-charge of the police station and three police officers have been suspended,” said a senior police official here.

This is not the first time that such a party was organised inside a police station in the state.

Not the first time

On another occasion, the in-charge of a police station virtually closed the premises in order to organise a birthday party during which liquor was served and bar girls were called to perform.
