Islamabad’s envoy to New Delhi, Abdul Basit, on Saturday said that Pakistan would continue to hope for a dialogue with India on the issue of Kashmir.

“We took a step towards having a dialogue but that did not work out. We did send an invitation to India, but that did not move forward,” Basit told journalists in New Delhi.
“We do feel a dialogue on Kashmir is needed,” added Basit.

India’s troubled ties with Pakistan hit a new low after the neighbouring country raised its pitch on Kashmir, in the wake of the recent unrest in the Valley following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani by security forces in an encounter.

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar conveyed to his counterpart in the Pakistan government A A Chaudhry on August 24 that the Government of India would like to have a result- oriented dialogue with the neighbouring country .
