Last Updated 28 August 2016, 20:08 IST

To help passengers, especially the elderly and differently-abled, a new escalator will be thrown open to the public in 15 days at the City (Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna) Railway Station.

A railway official from the Bengaluru Division said that work on the new escalator is almost complete. “We are doing test trials. The only work remaining is the fitting of glass panes to the escalator,’’ the official added.

The city railway station, which receives two lakh footfalls per day, already has four escalators on platforms one, four, five and six. The new escalator that will be installed on platform number two will help passengers, particularly during peak hours.

The official said six more such escalators will be installed at two railway stations. Of these, four escalators will be installed at the City Railway Station and two at the Yeshwantpur Station. Also, once all the proposed escalators come up, all platforms will have escalators at the City Railway Station, the official said.

Official said these facilities will further help in easing the movement of passengers as a few lifts are also available at the railway station. The official added that Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu might inaugurate the new escalator.
