Last Updated 29 August 2016, 18:27 IST

Phaneesh Murthy, who led the transformational journey of IT services companies iGate and Infosys, is on his third innings in the industry by joining the board of Marlabs.

According to sources privy to the development, Murthy joined the fast-growing digital technology solutions provider Marlabs four months ago. “He is restructuring the organisation to focus more on the sales strategy,” said a person familiar with the development.

In a recent interaction with employees, Marlabs CEO  Siby Vadakekkara said the organisational restructuring by bringing on board new faces and rebranding will give more synergy in the organisation.  “We have brought on board Murthy earlier this year.

We have seen immense changes and mentorship under his leadership. Last year, we rebranded the company and made it digitally agile to tap the growing opportunity in the digital transformation happening globally, especially in the US,” said Vadakekkara.

Murthy played an important role in increasing Infosys sales from $2 million when he joined the company to $750 million in revenues by the time he left in 2000. He became the CEO of iGate and played a key role in making it a billion dollar company. iGate was later taken over by French firm Capgemini for $4 billion in 2015.

“Murthy visited the company recently and talked to the leadership and some employees. He plans to undertake thorough restructuring of the company. His motivational speech really influenced employees and made up their mind for the changes that are likely to happen in the company,” said a source familiar with the development.

Former iGate CEO has already brought changes in the organisation by bringing in Salil Ravindran as the CFO. He was with iGate as Vice President and Head - M&A, Corporate Finance & Business Finance during May 2011 – December 2015 in Bengaluru/Mumbai. The company also appointed Peter Grambs as the Chief Client Officer. He worked with Cognizant for more than 12 years. Mahesh Eswar was appointed recently as Chief Revenue Officer at Marlabs. He has over 24 years of experience in IT sales, operations and customer management.

New Jersey-headquartered Marlabs has a dedicated team of over 2,000 employees, and a network of delivery centres in the US, Canada, Mexico, and India, and strong partnerships with industry leaders. Marlabs India offices are in Kochi, Bengaluru, Mysuru and Pune.

Phaneesh Murthy, who is the chairman of PM Health and Life Care, runs online pharma marketplace Zigy.com, which recently scaled down its operations substantially. Zigy was hit by a ban on advertising and multiple court cases brought by offline pharma players. The Bengaluru-based company withdrew its operations from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad. Zigy.com had raised over $5 million in funding recently.
