Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited and United States energy major Westinghouse Electric Company will soon commence engineering and site design works for the proposed atomic power plant in Andhra Pradesh.

The NPCIL and WEC will also finalize the contractual arrangements by June 2017 for setting up six AP 1000 reactors at the proposed plant in Andhra Pradesh. A joint statement issued on Wednesday highlighted the progress made in India-US civil nuclear cooperation.

The statement was issued a day after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman joined the US Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker to co-chair the second strategic and commercial dialogue.

The statement further noted: “continued engagement between WEC and the NPCIL toward finalizing the contractual arrangements by June 2017 to build six AP 1000 reactors that will provide clean, reliable energy to millions of people in India”.
