Octogenarian shows the way

Bangalore, March 7, DHNS:

Age is not a criterion for her and she doesn’t like being wished on Women's Day.

Brigida Dias DH Photo"I am blessed to be instrumental in feeding many families through the profession I chose decades ago."

That's Brigida Dias, an octogenarian who is the most sought after dressmaker for many schools in the city.

Dias, after a successful tailoring business stint in Kampala in Africa, was forced to return to City after the political turmoil. She persuaded the same business on Church Street in 1972.
In no time, with grit and dedication, she won appreciation from institutions. Even to this day, she works for more than eight hours, giving instructions to her tailors at her Hayes Road outlet.

"It's the passion and contentment in work that keeps me going. Many of my customers who wore the uniforms as tiny tots have gone on to become celebrities and have won the Miss India and Miss Universe crowns. Some got into film and modelling careers.
