A spicy comic romp

Last Updated 03 September 2016, 20:21 IST

Neer Dose Kannada (A) Cast: Jaggesh, Haripriya, Suman Ranganathan, H G Dattatreya Director: Vijaya Prasad

Entertaining and educative, Neer Dose is a bold experiment. Taking the comic route to narrate his tale about recognising human values, Vijaya Prasad goes the whole hog, leaving viewers squirming in their seats at the tittle-tattle.

Double entendres are galore in this spicy, tangy batter of Neer Dose. But that does not detract from Prasad’s main motive of driving his homily — human relationships matter the most irrespective of one’s calling and station in life.

A promiscuous retired PWD clerk Dattareya aka Shanbaug, a gallivanting BBMP hearse van driver Jaggesh Kumar aka Me Too Jaggu, and flaunt-your-bra-on-your-sleeve prostitute Kumuda aka spicy garlic, form this libidinous horseplay.

It also has Sharada Mani as a spinster with an unfavourable star sign, making it difficult to find a groom. Her strict papa would rather have his daughter unmarried than hand her away to a hearse van driver.

How these characters form a symbiotic relationship is told in flashback through a roadie format, as the trio travels from Bengaluru to Mangaluru, with each relating to circumstances of their past.

Comedian Jaggesh and the elderly Dattatreya form the unusual comic duo, mouthing choicest double entendres and leaving you shell-shocked. Haripriya flaunts her multi-coloured bras and shows ample skin in sheer satin slip. Despite her bold, bindas avatar, she disappoints. The saving grace is the tastefully done belly dance sequence.

Anoop Seelin’s music is pleasing and catchy with two noteworthy, soulful songs. Sugnaan’s camerawork provides the necessary flamboyance to the thought-provoking film.

Despite the hype about dialogues, the film is bound to disappoint those expecting a salacious entertainer, while the discerning can praise the experimental merit in the provocative enterprise.
