Various political parties in Tamil Nadu including the Vijayakanth-led DMDK, the BJP and the Naam Thamizhar Katchi as well as trade bodies on Tuesday announced that they would launch protest demonstrations against attacks on Tamils in Karnataka over the Cauvery issue.

Vijayakanth said that he and his party cadres will be staging a day-long hunger strike in Chennai on Friday condemning the attacks on Tamilians in Karnataka.

BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan announced that her party would stage a demonstration at Valluvarkottam here to protest against the violent attacks against Tamil people and their properties in Karnataka.

Naam Thamizhar Katchi announced a massive rally on Wednesday, demanding the Centre to solve the Cauvery issue immediately.

State-wide bandh
A group of traders’ organisation including Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam Perammaippu (TNVSP) announced a state-wide bandh on September 16 demanding Centre's instruction to Karnataka to ensure that attacks on Tamil Nadu vehicles are stopped. TNVSP president A M Vikramraja said traders will down the shutters on September 16.

Tamil Nadu Omni Buses Service Association president Jayan Pandian said private buses will not resume services to Karnataka unless complete protection was given to drivers. “Karnataka government should compensate transporters whose vehicles and trucks were damaged or burnt during the violence there", Pandian said. He assured that his organisation members will ensure that all omni buses from Karnataka will be protected in Tamil Nadu.
