Ashamed of being beaten up by some neighbourhood youngsters in front of his girlfriend, a 25-year-old salesman committed suicide by hanging at his house in West Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area.

The accused who allegedly assaulted the man have reportedly been absconding. Police have registered a case and investigation is underway. The incident happened on Sunday evening when Gyan Sharan Dutt was hanging out with a girl of his area whom he had befriended recently.

When the two were walking in a park, four-five youths came near the couple and singled out Dutt for a thrashing. The youths allegedly kept on punching and kicking Dutt for several minutes as the girl looked on helplessly.

The youths were allegedly not happy with the Dutt’s friendship with the girl as few of them had also been pursuing her for quiet some time. After the thrashing, a visibly shaken Dutt went to his house and without saying a single word with anyone bolted himself in his room.

Late evening, Dutt’s uncle Vinod called him from outside his room for some work. When he didn’t get a reply he knocked on the door. When he received no response he along with Dutt’s family members broke open the door and found hin hanging from the ceiling. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Dutt was working as a salesman in a mobile showroom in Nihal Vihar area. He was an orphan and had been raised by his uncle and his family, said police. Police didn’t find any suicide note from the house and after conducting post-mortem his body was handed over to the family.

A case has been registered at Nihal Vihar police station and police have started questioning his relatives and friends.
