Constable commits suicide
Second cop to take own life in two weeks
Within weeks of a woman sub-inspector shooting herself using a service revolver, a constable hanged himself at his Audugodi police quarters on Tuesday.
Noor Ali (27) was found hanging from the ceiling fan hook at his 4th Block, Nandini complex residence. Ali, a 2007 batch recruit and a native of Bagalkot, was attached to Madiwala police station. Around a year back, Ali had got married and his wife is four-months pregnant.
Ali locked himself in the bedroom and refused to open it when his wife knocked. She called the neighbours who broke open the bedroom door and found Ali hanging from the ceiling fan.
Some of his colleagues had this to say: “Ali was running around to get his leave sanctioned from his higher-ups. When his immediate boss (inspector) turned down his request, he approached the Assistant Commissioner of Police. After getting leave, he returned to the station to inform the seniors about it. He was ill-treated and this may have forced him to take the extreme step.”
According to other reports, in the morning, Ali had a marathon telephonic conversation with his brother who had asked him for some money to buy a tractor. After that phone call, he looked disturbed and went into his room and locked himself. The previous evening, before he left the station, Ali told some of his colleagues that he has to rush home as his wife would not eat without him.
B N S Reddy, DCP South-East, had many good things to say about Ali: “He was a soft- spoken and highly emotional. He was on general duty and was on night shift but failed to turn up on Monday for duty.” There is death note and Audugodi police have registed a case of unnatural death. On February 23, SI R Sushma of Anekal Police Station had shot herself.
