Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a head constable of the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE), Kolar district, red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 5,000.

The suspect has been identified as Ravi who was taking the bribe to close a case.
The directorate had summoned a person  for enquiry in connection with a complaint filed by a citizen. When the person turned up, Ravi demanded Rs 2,000 towards “stationery expenses”. He paid him only Rs 1,000.

A week ago, the head constable called up the person and summoned him to the directorate’s office. When he came to the office, Ravi reportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to close the case.

The man bargained with him and got the bribe reduced to Rs 5,000. He then approached the ACB and filed a complaint against Ravi.

The sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau laid a trap and caught Ravi red-handed, officials said. He has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
