Chamarajpet figures high on drunken driving cases
When it comes to booking drunken driving cases, Chamarajpet traffic police station in Bangalore City hits the high.
The police station located in the heart of the City has booked a total of 6,647 cases during the last two years (2008 and 2009) collecting a total fine of Rs 9.8 lakh.
According to a written reply by Home Minister V S Acharya provided to Congress MLA N Sampangi in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Jayanagar limits come next with 5,049 cases and Rs 7.3 lakh fine collected. The city market area witnessed 4,723 drunken driving cases.
Surprisingly, the conservative Basavagudi area too seems to be in high spirits. It comes next with 4,468 cases booked and Rs 6.5 lakh fines collected.
The presence of Bengaluru International Airport seems to have dampened the spirits of its residents –– or so it seems. Only 51 cases have been booked by the traffic police in this jurisdiction during the last two years!
BDA sites
The BJP government has allotted 144 ‘G’ category BDA sites since it took over the reigns of power in May 2008, the Legislative Assembly was informed on Tuesday.
‘G’ category sites are stray sites that are allotted below market rates. The sites are allotted under a discretionary quota held by the Chief Minister.
To a question raised by C S Puttaraju, Law Minister Suresh Kumar, replying on behalf of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, said no general allotment of BDA sites had been made between May 1 and February 22.
