Padmavathi is Cong mayor candidate

Despite opposition from the JD(S), the Congress, late on Tuesday night, finalised the name of G Padmavathi for Bengaluru mayor’s post. She would be the 50th mayor of the city.

The BBMP mayoral election has turned into a show of strength between the two allies – the Congress and the JD(S) – with the latter party not agreeing to back the candidature of Prakash Nagar corporator G Padmavathi.

While a majority of Congress MLAs and corporators are rallying behind Padmavathi, the JD(S) wants Congress corporator P Sowmya to be the next mayor.
