JOIN US'Radhika turned out to be a big surprise'
Actor Sumalatha Ambarish will be seen a lot more on the big screen, thanks to some interesting projects that are coming her way.
In her latest release, ‘Doddmane Hudga’, the actor will be sharing screen space with her actor-husband Ambarish after almost a decade.
It is the strong storyline and the opportunity to explore a host of emotions in her character that prompted Sumalatha to sign on the dotted line. The story deals with the many complications that people go through in their lives and also delves into parent-child relationships.
In a chat with Nina C George, Sumalatha shares some interesting moments during the shoot of ‘Doddmane Hudga’.
How was it to work with Ambarish again?
It was wonderful to share screen space with Ambarish. I’ve worked with him in his early years and seen him transform as an actor. However, he doesn’t appear in too many action scenes that he was initially popular for; he is now working on more mature and relaxed roles.
What did you like about your role?
I play Puneeth Rajkumar’s mother in the movie. The (onscreen) relationship between Puneeth and Ambarish is strained. As a child, the son is upset about the way his father treats him and runs away from home. The misunderstanding deepens between the father and son as the years pass by. Caught between the two is the mother who tries to ease the situation.
Was it easy for you to identify with the character?
It was very easy for me to slip into the role because I too have a son and can fully relate to the emotions between a mother and son.
Is this the first time you are working with Bharathi Vishnuvardhan?
Yes, this is my first project with Bharathiji. Although we regularly meet each other, we haven’t had the chance to work together. This project is a multi-starrer and it was particularly interesting because we had the chance to reminisce about the good old times and share a lot of light moments.
Your thoughts about Puneeth and Radhika...
Puneeth is an exceptional actor who is well-informed about the latest happenings in the world of cinema . He is a passionate actor, committed to the craft, and wishes to do something more than just acting. I found Radhika to be a very quiet person but she turned out to be a big surprise onscreen. She’s a brilliant performer.
