'Mumbai never said goodbye to me'

Every time Madhurima Tuli decided to pack her bags and return to her hometown, Dhanbad in Jharkhand, for the lack of work, she would get some assignment — giving her a reason to stay. in Mumbai. She says “being persistent” has worked in her favour. “I am thrilled that I came from nowhere and have managed to survive in the industry. But there is still a long way to go,” Tuli tells Metrolife.

The 31-year-old is playing a doctor in the second season of 24 and says the TV series gave her an opportunity to work with veterans like Anil Kapoor and Ashish Vidyarthi. “I was nervous, but it was a great opportunity to learn from them,” she says.

“The biggest challenge was to learn medical jargons and pronounce them correctly. But the team of the show was extremely helpful and helped me during practising sessions,” she adds.

The Baby actor had made her debut in the Telugu film, Saththaa in 2004. Then she moved to Mumbai and enrolled herself in an acting course. But it was only post 2007 that she started featuring regularly on TV shows and films.

“I have come a long way,” she says, adding that her struggle in the film
industry has taught her the importance of perseverance. “There are many struggles in store for an outsider in this industry, and my journey wasn’t any different. There were moments when I wanted to give up, but I didn’t. Looking back, I feel proud that I have survived,” she says. “Actually, I feel that Mumbai never said goodbye to me. There is competition but all one can do is work hard and leave everything on the destiny,” she adds.

So far, in her decade-old journey, Tuli has tried different genres, except comedy.
She says she wants to see how she will perform, if given an opportunity. “Comedy is something I am scared of. But I want to overcome this fear. So, let’s hope that I get to do it in near future,” she says.
