On Tuesday, just four kilometres from Kundalasangama, the final resting place of social reformer Basaveshwara and one of the holiest places for Lingayats, more than 25 sheep and goats were sacrificed at Yaredyamavva Jatre (fair). Shockingly, dismembered heads of the animals were arranged in a line for viewing of devotees.

The mutton was served as prasad to the devotees later in the night. Though many educated people and government officials thronged the place none of them raised any objection. The Temple Management Committee is threatening the opponents of animal sacrifice with divine wrath, it is learnt.
