He blends his drumming skills with electronic music and sound that is peppy and yet has an emotional touch to it. At 24, Delhi-based DJ and music producer Kerano has carved a niche for himself in the Indian dance music space.

His debut track, Here I Stand, was made in collaboration with Tom Swoon and was ranked four on Beatport (an electronic music-oriented online music store) Top100 Progressive House Chart (PH). He then collaborated with Dutch duo Magnificence for the track Breathing that went on the top spot on Beatport Top10 PH.

“I have always been a musician and was hardly into studying. I was someone who always found an excuse to bunk classes and rushed to the music room in my school,” says Kerano. He’s been a drummer since he was four, and started song writing when he was 13.

“I got into production in my first year of college and haven’t looked back since,” he adds.

From rock music to pop and hip-hop, he says that he gives shape to his music with the help of all these genres.

“Every genre helps shape some aspect of my sound,” he says.

His latest release in collaboration with Jochen Miller went into the Beatport Top10 at number three. He has played with popular DJs like Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas and Afrojack and says that in the past one year, he feels fortunate to have played in almost every city that has a culture for dance music in India.

Commenting on his journey in music, he says, “It’s challenging to move away from the herd and do something different. I love recreating and I always want to evolve as a musician.”

Kerano recently performed at Hauz Khas Social for Budweiser’s What’s Brewing campaign along with artistes like Anushka and Agent, Progressive Brothers, BLOT and Paraphoniks.

While agreeing that the event was an effective platform for “exposure of artistes”, Kerano doesn’t shy away from mentioning that he enjoys playing at “intimate clubs”.
“It’s challenging in a good way because the focus is solely on your music and there is a special stage setup to distract the crowd. I enjoy performing gigs in clubs,” he tells Metrolife.

On being asked about how his future projects, he says, “Many new releases are coming up,” adding that he cannot reveal more at the moment.

“I have plans to go international as well and I’m working hard with my team to reach that.”
