Civic Front is now a ‘perfect 10’
The alliance of the ‘fringe’ parties contesting the upcoming Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections just got bigger.
Joining hands with the Civic Front, an alliance of eight political parties, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have come together to fight the BBMP polls.
Announcing the first list of 55 wards where the Civic Front will be contesting, the 10-party alliance said the list of candidates is yet to be finalised since the new parties had come into their fold only on Tuesday evening.
Consolidating the fringe vote banks across the City, the 10 parties are trying to provide the City with an ‘alternative’ to the major political parties in Bangalore. District joint secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) Jayaram Rao said the Left parties’ support to the JD(S) and the farmers was restricted to the issue of fighting for the latter’s rights in the alleged Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) land acquisition scam.
“We are only supporting the JD(S) and other interested parties in the farmers struggle. The CPI and the CPI(M) are fighting the elections on a different platform. We are with the Civic Front for the BBMP elections,” he said. The Front said the final list of candidates and the wards they will be fighting from will be announced in the next two days. “While we hope that we can fight the elections in all the 198 wards, the final list will be out in the next two days,” informed Prakash, district secretary of CPI(M).
