CET faces application delay
Bangalore, Mar 10, DHNS:

The Common Entrance Test (CET) schedule is getting tighter by the day. Already running late by a month, the process has been delayed further with the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) extending the last date to submit the filled-in applications by a week.

Last year, the process was completed by February 28.

The CET 2010 brochure-cum-application will now reach the schools and colleges concerned only after March 15. Candidates will have time up to March 26 to submit the filled-in  applications.

The principals of these institutions have been instructed to submit the  application forms to the KEA by speed post on or before March 29.

The extension of dates comes just two days after the release of the CET brochure-cum-applications. The official reason cited is that the government holiday on March 16 would  hamper the process of submitting filled-in applications.

The Department of Higher Education and Medical Education had failed to finalise the seat matrix and fee structure of courses with private college managements on time, so as to complete the pre- CET process by February. Instead, the CET 2010 brochure and application was released on March 8.

The brochure does not contain any information on MBBS, BDS and Ayush courses, while only the fee details of BE courses have been printed. KEA executive director S Shankarnarayan said the decision on the date extension for submission of CET 2010 application was made in the interest of students.

“With a government holiday and the brochures being released two days ago, it would be inconvenient for students to submit the filled-in application, hence the dates have been extended. The extended duration will not affect the preparation for CET by the KEA or the communication process,” Shankar-narayan added.
