Mukesh Ambani, Lakshmi Mittal among world's top ten billionaires
Washington, March 11 (IANS)

Mukesh Ambani and Lakshmi Mittal figured among world's top ten billionaires as Mexican tycoon Carlo Slim Helu beat Americans Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the wealthiest person on earth.

Besides fourth ranked Reliance Industries chairman Ambani and fifth placed steel czar Mittal, four other Indians were among top 50 in 2010 Forbes list of the World's Billionaires released on Wednesday with as many 49 Indians joining company with the planet's 1,011 richest people.

With his fortune swelling to an estimated $53.5 billion, up $18.5 billion in 12 months, Slim surged ahead of Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates, who had held the title of world's richest 14 of the past 15 years, the US business magazine noted.

Gates, now worth $53 billion, is ranked second in the world. He is up $13 billion from a year ago as shares of Microsoft rose 50 percent in 12 months.  Buffett's fortune jumped $10 billion to $47 billion on rising shares of Berkshire Hathaway. He ranks third.
Eleven countries have at least double the number of billionaires they had a year ago, including China, India, Turkey and South Korea.

Fourth placed Mukesh Ambani with a fortune of $29 billion has global ambitions, Forbes said.  So has his younger brother Anil Ambani ranked 36 with a $13.7 billion fortune.
Fifth ranked Lakshmi Mittal with a fortune of $28.7 billion is "looking to expand in his native India; wants to build steel mills in Jharkhad and Orissa but has not received government approval," Forbes noted describing him as "London's richest resident" who oversees ArcelorMittal, world's largest steel maker.

Azim Premji with a fortune of $17.0 billion was ranked 28. "Software czar chairs $5.5 billion (revenues) Wipro, country's third-largest software exporter. Reported jump in net profits in last 2 quarters, signaling a rebound for US-dependent outsourcing giant."

Shashi & Ravi Ruia brothers took the 40th spot with a fortune of $13.0 billion. Their "$15 billion (revenues) Essar Group has weathered downturn and embarked on an expansion drive in all its businesses, including steel, oil and power."

Last among the Indians in top 50 was Savitri Jindal, ranked 44th, with a fortune of $12.2 billion. She took over as head of O.P. Jindal Group after her husband died in a helicopter crash in 2005.

Among other Indians on the billionaires list were Kushal Pal Singh (74), Kumar Birla (86), Sunil Mittal (87), Anil Agarwal (113), Adi Godrej & family (148), Shiv Nadar (201),  N.R. Narayana Murthy & family  (616), Rahul Bajaj (880) and Vijay Mallya (937).

In the name of creating wealth, we build wider disparities. While European /American Christians and Arabs believe that telling lies, cheating and being uncharitable as immoral, sadly for Hindus immorality means only association with opposite sex out of wedlock ( that too if it comes to public domain. Subtle relations are not objected as in the case of some divine merchants who dispenses god’s blessing in retail). So when two vehicles collide in this country, none of the drivers accepts the mistake and they fight on the middle of the road. When it happens in Europe, the driver who is guilty come forward with an apology asking where he should sign for the insurance claim for the other. Our morality is so shallow, it is very unfortunate that where ever our people have migrated to do business, they have not earned in good name for the country. Where as our people who have gone for doing service /employment, they have been able to get a good name for the country. As a result not only Australia or Uganda even Hindu majority countries like Nepal and Fiji , have history of chasing our “businessmen”. It is precisely for this reason there was a hue and cry, when Lakshmi Mittal went to take over Arcelor, while Tata’s acquisition of Corus or Tetley did not raise any eye brows. Having lived ion Europe, with a fair degree of certainty I can say that we are not a liked community by many because of unscrupulous way of doing business. I would not be surprised if in another 10 years’ time, all the 100 wealthy men in the world happen to be Hindus, but am sure that among the top 100 donors for any charity, no Indian name would appear. Many Hindus believe in bribing god by donating to temple, than giving any charity to poor. The reason why Tata’s name does not appear in the list of wealthy men is precisely because he follows different scriptures. That is the reality and nothing to feel annoyed by knowing the unpleasant fact. We believe only in achievements – precisely materialistic. Yet we hypocritically pretend to be against all worldly things quoting our scriptures. So we proclaim Mahatma Gandhi as the greatest person of the country and yet pray our next generation should be like Ambani – not Gandhi.

Let us thank God and all who worked hard to become billionnaires. A number of big names are there and I as a true patriotic Indian I would like to draw their attention towards all those people who worked tirelessy behind the scene to make it possible for them to be rich in this country. Now it is their turn to plough back these resources for the development of this Great Nation as true patriots and I am sure that our country will attain self sufficiency in everything and we will be able to live in harmony with dignity, vision and respect with our hard work at all times. Jaihind.

They have to do lot of corporate social responisbility, like let them build free hospitals, free schools, rural development etc. Also Just growing into big billionaries what you get is prode, media attention, also these billionaries should shed out their selfishness and egoism and pride. For example one of the Ambanis is building for his family 27 floor house on the sea front for which Maharstra Govt passed a no objection certifcate. Four floors for his cars, similarly the other amabni wants 1000 cares for building one university, so waht this shows is selfishness and self interest billionaries will ruin the nation and their benefit to nation is very less. So Billionaries should become more humane and also the Grred to become ore rich these Indian Billonaries are ruining Forests, agro lands by expanding foolishly their empire and destroying the agro sector. Really this is not good for the nation

These billionaires have to contribute towards building the world-class universities in their home town or where they came from or obtained their basic education. Indian is house to huge youth’s population and they need world-calls education in their interested domain. Existing institutes would not accommodate more than that of fixed seats per academy and they choose to less prestigious institutes and they thought that would not tap their talent properly and less opportunity in translating their talent and ideas. Fifty billionaires open one each that kind of institute in the line of Harvard University compromising all the branches instead restricted to limited subjects with the help of union and respective state government. If they would come forward to open such universities across the country certainly union and state government support their vision by providing requisite land and infrastructure. It is the responsibility of our true industry leaders to build the country in the knowledge economy and information age quality education is the best tool to excel in their chosen domain and through contribute the nation progression.

Thats really a good idea to start good institutions. If Govt gives tax exemption for the money they invest or spend they may take more interest towards these.
