Macadamia nuts are often considered incredibly fatty and far from healthy. The truth, however, is that they are packed with a wide range of nutrients, minerals like calcium and iron, antioxidants, proteins and vitamins that are essential for good health.

Although there are seven kinds of macadamia nuts that are grown across the world, only two are edible. They are known to be sweeter and larger than most nuts and can be eaten raw, roasted or cooked. Eating these nuts on a regular basis can have a positive effect on one’s health. Here are some of the benefits of macadamia nuts:

* Heart health: These nuts are rich in healthy monounsaturated fats that help protect the heart by reducing cholesterol levels and cleaning out the arteries. They also help lower triglyceride levels in your body, and as a result, the risk of coronary diseases is reduced.

* Weight loss: The presence of palmitoleic acid, a type of monounsaturated fatty acid, and omega-7 fatty acid in the nuts helps control the burning of fat and curbs appetite.

* Free radicals: There is an abundance of antioxidants such as squalene and vitamin E in macadamia nut oil. These help prevent the damage that free radicals may cause by absorbing them.

* Gut health: With 7% dietary fibre, macadamia nuts not only bring about a feeling of fullness, but also provide roughage that takes the toxins out of the body. As a result, the nuts also aid digestion.

* Young skin: Macadamia nut oil is rich in palmitoleic fatty acid that delays the process of ageing.

* Immunity: Macadamia nuts are rich in flavonoids, which help in preventing cell damage caused by environmental toxins. When ingested, flavonoids get converted into antioxidants. In this form, they protect the body from various diseases by eradicating free radicals.
