‘Govt outsourcing medical faculty’
Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gowda said due to severe shortage of teaching doctors in the State the Government has requested doctors of neighbouring states to teach in the State’s medical colleges.
Replying to a question by H D Revanna (JD-S) in the Assembly on Thursday regarding 17 vacant teaching posts in the newly established government medical college in Hassan, he said it has become impossible to get doctors to teach in government medical colleges.
“We have not been able to get lecturers even after conducting walk-in-interviews and overlooking reservation norms. We are asking doctors of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to come here to teach,” the Medical Education minister said.
Sent on deputation
The minister said teachers have been sent on deputation to the Hassan college. Availability of postgraduate doctors would improve in the next two years as the Medical Council of India has allowed to increase intake of students, he said.
Earlier, Revanna said of the six new medical colleges, only the college in Shimoga has got recognition from the Medical Council of India.
He alleged the Government is neglecting the other colleges while paying attention only to the Shimoga college.
