With rapid advances in technology, schools in Bengaluru are using hi-tech communication systems and apps to keep tabs on students, update parents on the goings-on in the institution and dispense information on coursework and other activities.

For example, BGS National Public School, Hulimavu, has been using a free school communication system called Yokibu that saves the school a lot of time. S Ayyappan Nair, academic director at BGS Group of Institutions, explained, “We have been using this system for six years now and we can do a lot of things with it like dispense information to parents through e-mail, reach a particular class and intimate them about coursework and what not,” he said.

The communication software has a mobile app, too, which parents can download to keep tabs on every happening in the school, Ayyappan said. The app and software can also be used by parents as a platform to discuss issues of concern to them.

Bright Kids School, Bannerghatta School, uses a communication app called the Talkative Parents. It is a messaging app that connects parents with each other as well as the school with parents. “Ours is a small Montessori and we use the app to notify parents,” the school’s principal, Shanti Shetty, said. “Previously, I would have to put up such information on the school’s message board.”

Administrator Plus is another information management and communication system that schools like Mallya Aditi International School, Yelahanka, have been using. Explaining how the system works, Sathish Jayarajan, principal of the school, said, “We use this system to keep records of students, send student data and reports to parents. All we need to do is enter basic data. We also have a mobile app that makes communication easier,” he said. Educhat is another app-based communication that is popular among schools across the city.
