BBMP razes entrance arch of private layout

Last Updated 21 October 2016, 20:28 IST

Resuming its drive against encroachments, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday razed the entrance arch and security room, belonging to Classic Orchards, Bannerghatta Road.

“This illegal concrete structure was blocking the 60-foot alternative road that connects Bannerghatta Road and Jambusavari Dinne. With the demolition, the stretch has been thrown open to traffic," a BBMP official said.

He mentioned that the then Gottigere gram panchayat had given permission to construct Classic Orchards, which was brought under BBMP limits after 2003. Although the palike is the custodian of the roads, the public were barred from using the stretch by the occupants of the layout," the official added.

In 2014, a portion of the entrance arch which was blocking the road was razed. However, the residents’ association had approached the court, seeking custody of the road and nearby park. The court, however, announced a verdict in favour of the palike," BBMP officials noted.

Meanwhile, Classic Orchards resident's welfare association has threatened to approach the court again. Association president Subbu Hegde said it is a gated community and public are allowed inside the compound without permission. BBMP has taken possession of the road illegally. We will take up a legal fight," he mentioned.
