Last Updated 22 October 2016, 06:37 IST

An IAS offier serving as private secretary to a Union Minister has filed an FIR against a man who has been allegedly harassing and stalking her for nearly eight years.

The stalker allegedly threatened the officer and her family with acid attack and physical assault. “We have registered an FIR, and further investigation is underway,” said a senior police officer.

The victim is an Indian Administrative office, while the accused is a former contractual employee with a state government’s heath department.

The man has been stalking the bureaucrat ever since she was posted as a district magistrate.

She had then, reportedly, filed a case against the man following which his contract was terminated by the state government. However, he did not mend his ways and continued to harass the officer through obscene texts and images.

Even when she was posted as private secretary to a Union Minister in Delhi, the stalker continued to harass her and even sent her gifts from e-commerce websites.

The victim said in her complaint that the accused used to call up at her office posing as her husband.

After constantly suffering mental harassment, the IAS officer registered a case at the Delhi’s Chanakyapuri police station.

Over the last few months, many cases of stalking have been reported from various parts of the national capital. Delhi Commission of Women chief Swati Maliwal, in an interview to Deccan Herald, had said Delhi has, unfortunately, become the “stalking capital of the world”.
