We need to adjust to the conditions, says Southee

New Zealand have bounced back in the one-day series with style and fast bowler Tim Southee believes they need to get the hang of the conditions quickly if they wish to take a crucial 2-1 lead on Sunday.

After being blanked in the Test series 3-0, the Black Caps have fought back in the ODIs to level the five-match series 1-1. Southee insisted the side never allowed defeats to affect its morale.

“We know it's a big game in terms of the series. We just got to get used to these conditions as quick as we can. They're going to be different to what they were in Delhi,” Southee told reporters on Saturday.

“The strength of our side is we don't get too far ahead of ourselves and we don't get too down when results don't go our way. We prepare the same way leading into every match. We've seen that starting is not particularly easy, it's about giving the player time to play a few balls and catching up later on. This wicket is going to be different, so it may be different.”
Southee was delighted to see a smattering of grass on the pitch but admitted it would be early to predict its behavior.

“We can see it (the wicket) can change very quickly. It was nice to go out there and see some grass on the wicket but having played here a few times, it's traditionally pretty good for batsmen as well. I won't read too much into it. We'll turn up tomorrow and have another look at the wicket,” he said.

The form of Ross Taylor has been a major headache for the side. In the three Tests and the two ODIs, Taylor has struggled to get a start. In Delhi, he made 21 off 42 balls before falling to the trap of Amit Mishra. Southee backed his teammate and said a big score from him was just round the corner.
