JOIN USFlyover will hit planetarium's telescopic observations: U R Rao
Renowned space scientist U R Rao on Wednesday met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and told him that the proposed steel flyover will come in the way of telescopic observations at the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium.
The proposed steel flyover between Basaveshwara Circle and Hebbal will pass in front of the planetarium premises. Rao is on the Governing Council of Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE) which is charge of the administration of the planetarium.
At a meeting held at the chief minister’s home office Krishna, Rao is said to have pointed out that the planetarium makes regular astronomical observations through telescopes as part of its activities. The flyover will also obstruct signal reception at the dish antennae installed on the planetarium premises.
Besides, the planetarium holds regular programmes for public. In May, arrangements had been made for public viewing the event of transit of mercury through telescopes.
Rao told reporters: “I told the chief minister that the present alignment of the flyover will result in a setback to the activities at the planetarium and sought a change. The chief minister has responded positively.”
Siddaramaiah has directed Bengaluru Development Authority Commissioner Rajkumar Khatri and Urban Development Department Additional Chief Secretary Mahendra Jain to get back to him on the issues raised by Rao.
