A 60-year-music teacher stabbed his wife to death in their car in South Delhi’s Anand Niketan area on Wednesday morning.

After stabbing the 58-year-old woman in the neck, the man tried to decapitate her.
Mukesh Monga, apparently drunk, was caught by bystanders and handed over to the police.

Manju died on the spot, and her body was sent for post-mortem, said police.
The incident happened around 11. 30 am near Anand Niketan market when Manju was on her way to her boutique accompanied with her husband.

“She runs a boutique in Anand Niketan and Mukesh works in his sister’s music institute in Vasant Kunj,” said Nupur Prasad, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).
Police said Mukesh doesn’t have a permanent source of income and tentatively works in his sister’s institute as a guitar instructor.

“According to their children it was their mother who was supporting the family, as Mukesh didn’t have a permanent source of income,” Prasad added.

The couple’s children told in their statement to police that Mukesh was not present at home on Tuesday and suddenly turned up on Wednesday morning.

“In the morning he insisted to Manju that he wanted to drop her at her work place in car. At the Anand Niketan market, near Manju’s boutique, a verbal spat occurred between the two during which Mukesh brought out a knife kept in the car and stabbed in her abdomen, neck and face,” said a police officer.

The couple have two children – one son and one daughter. Their daughter Vartika, 32, works in an NGO at Jor Bagh while the son Dhawal, 26, works as a model cum actor, said their neighbours.

Mukesh’s father also lives with the family in their three-bedroom flat in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar.

According to the neighbours, the family had been torn between the husband and wife with the children siding with Manju while Mukesh and his father living in the same house albeit in an estranged manner with the rest of the family members.

Police have registered a case and questioning Mukesh about the motive of the murder. Police are suspecting that the knife had already been kept in the car making it a pre-planned murder.

“We are investigating the case and will take appropriate action accordingly,” said a senior police officer.
