The state government has decided to declare 29 more taluks drought-hit. This is in addition to the 110 taluks which have already been declared drought-affected.
A decision to include more taluks in the drought-hit list was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee chaired by Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa in Bengaluru on Saturday.
An official announcement on declaring more taluks drought-hit will be made after a meeting of the state Cabinet scheduled to be held later this week. With this, as many as 139 of 176 taluks in the state will be included in the drought- hit list.
Speaking to reporters, Thimmappa said the government has submitted a report to the Centre seeking a compensation of Rs 3,373 crore for drought relief. A Central team is scheduled to visit the drought affected areas of the state from November 2 to 5.
