In the 15 years of his journey in Bollywood, Anubhav Sinha has directed seven movies, which he doesn’t consider as a good average. But the Ra.One director, who is ready with his next, Tum Bin 2, is willing to pace up and make more films now.

“There are various stories and scripts that I am reading. And by the time Tum Bin 2
releases (November 18), I would have something else lined up. Directing just seven movies in 15 years makes me look like a lazy director which I’m not. I am going to change this average soon. That means more films from me in the coming days,” Sinha tells Metrolife.

Talking about his upcoming movie, Sinha clarifies that it is not a sequel of his debut movie Tum Bin which released in 2001.

“Tum Bin 2 is not a continuation of the previous film. However, I have taken some elements from Tum Bin forward to make it a franchise. I couldn’t just have made another love story and call it Tum Bin 2. People would have felt cheated then. The new film has a different story which fits into the same space of Tum Bin,” shares Sinha.

Tum Bin featured newcomers Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sandali Sinha, Himanshu Malik, and Raqesh Vashisth in lead roles. In this movie too, he has cast debutants like Aditya Seal and Aashim Gulati in lead roles, along with Neha Sharma. One being asked why he didn’t choose any established face, Sinha jokingly says “even if I ever make Tum Bin 34, it will be made with newcomers.”

According to him, “Tum Bin is a franchise with newcomers.”Sinha believes that newcomers today are well prepared and understand the importance of every shot unlike earlier.

“Fifteen years back, newcomers were naïve. They did not understand the fame a movie can offer to them. Today, new actors understand the value of each and every shot which helps a lot.”

He adds, “Even I was like that. I was making my first film and I didn’t understand the meaning of it. But now I have aged 15 years from the first movie. I have matured,
I look at love and life little differently than I used to. And all these reflect in the film,” says the Gulaab Gang producer.

Though Tum Bin was sleeper hit but its music topped many charts for years. Similarly, Tum Bin 2’s music has also created a buzz ever since it was released.

“I was not using Tum Bin as a reference qualitatively. When I started with this movie, I was very much aware that everything I will do will be compared with the previous film. And so there was this pressure on me. But I did not try to deal with that pressure. I just worked hard and gave my best,” he says.

“Even while making the music I did not care if it would be better or equally good
compared to Tum Bin. There was no barometer at that stage to judge it. So I just went ahead following my instincts and chose the songs that I liked. Thankfully, people loved it and it is doing well,” he adds.

The movie has a new version of Jagjit Singh’s hit ghazal Koi Fariyaad from Tum Bin. Explaining the reason, Sinha says, “The song was more of a narrative device in the film. I thought it would help me carry the franchise forward. The other reason I did it is because I wanted late Jagjit Singh to be a part of Tum Bin 2 soundtrack as well.”
