It was a pleasant day in Bengaluru city yesterday to pick up your bicycle and go for a ride. Making the experience a different one were some Bengalureans who took part in ‘Bicycle around the Ooru, stumbling into Street Art’ from Indiranagar Metro Station to Majestic Metro Station.

The enthusiastic cyclists gathered at Indiranagar metro station in the morning to explore the latest street art in the city. Organised by ‘Gathr’, the event saw 20
cyclists who formed groups of three to travel the across the city.

Gowri Om, one of the organisers, said, “The idea was to explore the new street art that has come up along the metro lines in the city. Since it was Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, the roads were almost perfect to go on a bike ride. We had a few stops in between the various stations and the artistes explains their work.”

As the ‘St+Art Festival’ was going on for the past one month, many artistes in the city came together and showcased their skills in public areas. The artistes were present at each venue and they spoke to the cyclists about their installations. Though the slight drizzle was a minor hindrance to the experience, the riders seemed to have enjoyed themselves.

Badrinarayanan Seetharaman, the co-founder of ‘Gathr’, said, “It was a great turn out as we didn’t expect so many to come. It was a good crowd who were enthusiastic to learn about the art development in the city. The artistes were insightful in sharing their thoughts about the work and we are glad we could make this happen.”

Jacob John, an experience design and researcher, was excited to be a part of this event. He said, “We rode to about eight to nine locations and saw the different art works. The artistes being present there was a great help as they explained their work. It was a long ride, but totally worth it.”

The event saw experienced to new riders. While some were new to the geared
bike experience, they had a practice riding session before they hit the roads. Basic instructions and rules and regulations were explained to all the riders.
