‘Regularise Asha workers’ service’
State and Central governments should not make Asha workers to work as commission agents. Both the governments should constitute a policy to provide reasonable salary to them every month, said Akhila Bharatha UTUC State Secretary M Shashidhar.
He was speaking at the district-level Asha workers meet in Kadur on Saturday. D Nagalakshmi said under national rural health mission, the service of Asha workers have been made available in rural areas to prevent infant mortality.
Asha workers’ service must be regularised and must be considered as ‘D’ group employees of the government. The health minister has assured to provide free uniform and monthly salary to the Asha workers.
Akhila Bharatha UTUC State Joint Secretary K V Bhat said the condition of the labourers are in deplorable condition owing to the liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation policy. In the name of contract labourers, without providing job security, and minimum wages, the labourers are made to work. The district has more than 950 Asha workers.
