BJP activist Sunil Dongre was found murdered in Sonal village of Aurad taluk in the district on Sunday night. According to police sources, the victim was violently attacked with sharp weapons and has serious stab injuries on the intestine, face and other parts of the body. His body was found on the premises of the government primary school in the village.

Dongre is survived by three children, wife and mother. His younger brother works in a private firm, sources said. Dongre, 35, is said to be a staunch follower of Aurad MLA Prabhu Chavan (BJP), had a political say in nearby villages and actively worked for the party. He owned more than 50 acres of agriculture land in Sonal and was financially sound. The victim had cordial relations with everyone, sources said.

Police investigating the case were tightlipped and did not disclose the motive behind the murder. Preliminary probe revealed that the victim had received a call on his mobile phone at 10 pm, after which he visited the school. His body was found with several injury marks there later, sources said. MLA Chavan and ZP member Anil Gundappa, meanwhile, visited Sonal to console Dongre’s family members.

The Aurad MLA, speaking to reporters at Kamalnagar, said BJP and RSS activists were being murdered in different parts of the state. Home Minister G Parameshwara had completely failed to discharge his duties, he said. Dongre demanded a high-level probe into the murder. Superintendent of Police Prakash Nikam, Bhalki range DySP Ashok Kumar D S and other senior police officers visited the spot.
