It was a night under the stars for a few Bengalureans this weekend. Organised by ‘Gathr’ the ‘Under Shooting Stars: Stories, Strings and Outer Space’ was held at The Courtyard House in Carmelaram on Saturday. The enthusiastic youngsters were excited to get away from the bustling city and enjoy a quiet and entertaining night.

“We wanted to do something new and interesting this weekend and a night picnic seemed like the perfect thing to do. Though it was a bit cloudy a couple of days ago, we were lucky to have a clear sky on the night off,” said Badrinarayanan Seetharaman, the co-founder of ‘Gathr’. The night saw at least 50 Bengalureans who also wanted something different to do on the weekends. The team had organised for games and food; for entertainment, they had music, storytelling sessions and star gazing with an expert astronomer. Those who joined also witnessed shooting stars and Jupiter.

Ashna, a lawyer, said, “I heard about the night picnic through a friend and I was excited to do something different. I was interested in astronomy growing up; I would enjoy checking out the stars with my dad. It was a wonderful night experience that once again. The music, ambience and people who came made it a rather entertaining one.” For a few others, it was their first time learning about the cosmic chain.

Pratheek Vinod Kumar, a co-founder of ‘iService’, shared, “The best part of the night were the conversation with complete strangers. I’m happy that I made some new friends. The storytelling session was intense and everyone was captivated by it. Checking out the sky with the telescope was a cool experience too.”

Excited about the night was also Aruj Garj, founder of ‘Bhukkad’, said “I love going to the events organised by the team. I get to meet a lot of new people. I’ve been in touch with everyone from the previous meetings. I was very excited about this concept. Shruthi Vishwanath’s music was absolutely magical; her voice was genuine and I could feel the passion in her voice.”
